One eye set further out than the other

My left eye has always been set slighly further forward than the other, about two or three millimeters, and I suspect this affects my depth perception as I have a hard time telling how far away things are. But, and I have to stress this, I do NOT have proptosis, this is a physical deformity present since birth. What I want to know is what this condition might be called and how exactly it may affect my vision. I also have astigmatism if that is important.
